American Words?

Malaysians speak Bahasa Malay....meaning Malaysian Language.  It was adopted as the official language in 1957.  The most commonly used script for Bahasa is the Latin Alphabet which was introduced by the Dutch and British during the 17th century.  English is used widely in professional and commercial fields and in the Superior Courts.  A lot of the words seem as if they are borrowed fro the English language and spelled phonetically.  I was told by someone if there is not a word in Malay to correspond with that word then they use the english word and spell it as it sounds phonetically using Bahasa Malay rules.....makes sense
Can you figure these words out?

Optometri

Restoran

Servis

Motorsikal

Telekomunikasi

I thought this was interesting in that they used
the word “saloon” instead of “salon”

Universiti

Galeri Gitar

Teksi

Polis

Automobil

Farmasi

Bakeri

Kontraktor

Kolesterol

Telefon

Kosmetik

Kamera

Aksesori...Servis...Werks

Kollektion..This word is actually
unusual because they rarely
use “tion"

Komputer

Nasional

Sup

These are just a few of the words we have seen around our little area.  As always when you don’t have the camera ready or you are riding too fast to take pictures is when you see the majority of the words.....at least that is the case with me.  Thought you might enjoy seeing a little bit of home here in Malaysia!
Til next time.....
